"How can we make our town a better place?" - civic leaders to make case for £25m cash injection

People in Loughborough are being asked what would make it a better place with the chance of millions of pounds Government cash heading to the town.

Council bosses and business leaders are looking to land £25 million from Westminster as .

Specific details are scarce at the moment but the rough aim is to regenerate places, boost businesses, and improve infrastructure and connectivity.

A Loughborough Town Deal Board has been set up to oversee the bid to the project.

Its members will now be asked what they should to be considering as part of their bid.

Charnwood Borough Council leader Jonathan Morgan is the co-chairman of the board.

He said: “The Town Deal is a huge opportunity for Loughborough and it is essential that we come together as a community to put together an outstanding business case to secure every penny of the £25 million on offer.

“We will be engaging and consulting with residents, businesses and groups over the next few months but to get things moving we are appealing for ideas to be submitted.

“We are forming a community consultation and engagement group to oversee this work.

“Please put forward your ideas for the town, no matter how small or large, and get involved in helping to create a brighter future for Loughborough.”

The other co-chairman is Dr Nik Kotecha, who runs Morningside Pharmaceuticals in the town and sits on the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership board.

He said: “This is a chance to make significant improvements in the town for the benefit of residents and the local economy.

“The board is committed to involving the community and so I would encourage people to come forward with ideas.”

Ideas to boost the town will be considered as part of the process to draw up a formal investment plan which will be sent to government later this year.

Ideas can be suggested here before 11.59pm on Sunday, February 23.

The board says there will then be a further consultation, which will take place later in the year.
