Callum Wilson has not been shy in outlining his England ambition since making the move to Newcastle United.
The former Bournemouth striker was confident his switch to St James' Park would help him force his way back into Gareth Southgate's plans for next summer's European Championships.
The 28-year-old has earned four England caps so far, netting in the Three Lions' friendly victory over the USA in November 2018.
However, despite an impressive start to life in black-and-white which has seen Wilson bag six Premier League goals in just eight games, the striker did not earn a call-up for the latest squad.
Southgate named Harry Kane, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Tammy Abraham and Marcus Rashford as his recognised centre-forward options for the friendly victory over the Republic of Ireland, and decisive Nations League ties against Belgium and Iceland.
It was an announcement which undoubtedly prompted disappointment on Tyneside, with fans believing Wilson and goalkeeper Karl Darlow were in with a chance of being called up.
But how does the in-form striker's record so far compare to his England competitors?
Despite retiring from international football in 2018, Jamie Vardy's form for Leicester City would almost make him a shoo-in for the Three Lions squad.
No other English top-flight striker has a better minutes per goal record than Vardy this season, with nine strikes in all competitions across 628 minutes on the pitch.
That works out as one every 69.8 minutes, and puts him ahead of the likes of Calvert-Lewin (75.7 minutes), Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins (92.6 minutes) and Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford (95.7 minutes).
Wilson is currently sixth in the table with a goal every 121 minutes, behind Tottenham captain and undisputed England number nine Harry Kane (101.5)
However, the Magpies marksman does currently boast a more efficient return than Rashford and Abraham, as well as Southampton striker Danny Ings who has featured in Southgate's recent squads.
