How British staycation trend could drive growth at new holiday home firm

The boss of a new luxury holiday home manufacturer in East Yorkshire is confident the firm will make its mark in a competitive industry.

Dream Leisure Living, founded by former joiner and carpenter Jon-James Leng, showcased its products for the first time at the Cottingham Parks Lodge & Caravan Show earlier this month.

Jon-James brings with him almost 15 years of experience of designing and manufacturing bespoke mobile homes, and has now set his sights on luxury park homes and lodges.

His route into the manufacturing sector was however an unexpected one.

“I was asked by a friend whether I could make a mobile home for them, due to my background being a joiner, and it all started from there,” Jon-James said.

“We exhibited Dream Leisure Living for the first time at Cottingham Parks, and got some really good feedback from people. We picked up a few leads as well, which is what it’s all about.

“We are a family business, so we aren’t looking to run before we can walk, but we are looking to venture into the holiday park market and grow from there.”

Dream Leisure Living is currently based in Howden, East Yorkshire.

It currently works with individuals who are looking to downsize their current home, or buy a new luxury lodge.

Moving forwards, Jon-James said he hoped to start working with smaller holiday and leisure home operators, and expand beyond individual orders.

“We are moving at a steady pace at the moment, but if we wanted to expand the business further then we would have to move into a bigger unit,” he said.

“I think the park home market will go big. A lot of people are looking at them now as another option for a dwelling, and ‘staycations’ is a big factor with fewer people travelling abroad.”

Dream Leisure Living has joined an established sector of holiday home and lodge manufacturers in East Yorkshire.

Jon-James insisted that although the firm was not looking to compete with big industry hitters like Willerby, Swift and Coachman, it would stand out in a competitive marketplace.

“If you see the products which we offer, they are quite unique really,” he said.

“The finishing work we do is very different to other manufacturers. It has more of a house or home feel, so it lends itself perfectly to the park home sector.

“There is no need for the park home to be a traditional holiday home anymore – it can have more of a residential feel to it.”

Jon-James is joined at Dream Leisure Living by his brother Jay.

The business currently employs 11 people, as it looks to find its feet in the industry.

It also specialises in the manufacturing of smaller buildings, including mini-lodges and micro pods, with all products hand crafted at its Howden facility.
