How Bristol City, Leeds United, Stoke City and the rest of the Championship voted in the last election

It was a Labour landslide in the Championship at the last general election.

The 2017 general election famously ended in a hung parliament, which is one of the reasons we find ourselves heading back to the polls just two years later.

There was no such deadlock when it comes to how football clubs voted though.

The parliamentary constituencies of the 24 current Championship clubs overwhelmingly voted for Labour in the last election.

Jeremy Corbyn’s party won 20 of the seats which contain the ground of a current second tier side, including Bristol City's. The other four seats - Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Reading and Stoke - went for Theresa May’s Conservative’s.

How your club ground's constituency voted

Brexit has been one of the top issues of this campaign and on this issue the Championship, like the rest of the country, is more divided.

A total of 14 clubs are in constituencies which the government estimates voted Leave in the 2016 referendum, leaving 10 who voted remain.

Ashton Gate's constituency, Bristol South, voted to remain, but it was close. 47.1% of people in the constituency voted to leave the EU.

Stoke’s ground is in the most “Brexity” constituency with 71% of voters there estimated to have voted Leave.

Stoke's ground is the most 'Brexity' in the Championship, whereas Bristol City sit somewhere in the middle (Stoke Sentinel)

The constituency containing Barnsley’s ground voted 68% Leave as did 68% of voters around Hull’s ground, 66% around Middlesbrough’s and 63% around Wigan’s.

Millwall’s constituency only voted 24% Leave, while for Fulham it’s 29%, QPR it’s 31% and Birmingham it’s 36%.
