How boxer Owen went from trying to blag free entry into Ulster Hall bill to fighting on it

Owen O'Neill admits he went from trying to blag free entry into on next Friday's MTK boxing bill in Belfast, to suddenly fighting on it.

O'Neill only made his pro debut three weeks ago, impressing at the Devenish Complex with a points win over Kristaps Zulgis.

Now the North Belfast boxer is ready to make a quick reappearance after being drafted in for the big June 21 show at the Ulster Hall.

"It's mad. It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks," O'Neill said.

"I texted Paddy Gallagher last week asking him to get me one of his fight t-shirts so I could get into his dressing room and didn't have to pay in.

"Now I am going to be fighting on it.

"I wasn't expecting to be fighting again until September, but then I got a call saying Jamie (Conlan) had offered me a slot on next week's show.

"It is a huge platform for me, and will be more great experience. I can't wait."

O'Neill admits he was so nervous before entering the ring for his pro debut that he was close to pulling out.

"I was standing, waiting to walk on, and I was so nervous. I just thought 'I can't do this'," he added.

"I couldn't feel my legs. People were shouting at me 'this is your time' and I was thinking 'Is it really?'.

"But once I got into the ring I suddenly switched on and enjoyed it. Once you get down to business you shut everything else out.

"Even the crowd, who were unreal, you just have to focus on the fight and then celebrate afterwards.

"I feel more relaxed going into this fight. I can't wait to get back out there and show what I am all about."
