How Borna Barisic can be 'very important' to Croatia as Rangers star declared 'first choice'

Rangers star Borna Barisic has been declared as key to Croatia's Euro 2020 chances by team-mate Josip Brekalo.

The left back is likely to start against Croatia on Sunday with the World Cup Finalists hoping they can get the better of a side they beat in 2018.

They are unexpected to go quite as far in this tournament after a disappointing couple of years but Brekalo believes Barisic can be vital ahead of their game with Scotland in the final group game.

That takes place on Tuesday, June 22, and the Rangers defender has been able to give advice to the Croatia squad on the Scotland squad.

He'll be up against team-mates Nathan Patterson and Jon McLaughlin if either of the pair are selected for the game and Barisic has also played against many of the squad.

Brekalo said: “Borna is excellent in the Scottish league. He will be very important to us for advice when we play the match against Scotland.

“Borna has managed to earn his place during the Nations League and qualifiers to become the first choice in that position.

“He is a high quality player who can contribute a lot to us this summer.”
