How Bolton's new signings have integrated into life at Wanderers as ex-Arsenal winger pinpointed

Ian Evatt feels the new signings have adapted to life at Bolton Wanderers well and used Xavier Amaechi as an example of a player who will give his side what they need to compete in League One.

Wanderers are gearing up for life back in the third tier of English football and kick-off their pre-season campaign this Saturday against Longridge Town.

It could be the first game in a Bolton shirt for several players who have signed for Wanderers this summer.

Amaechi has joined on a six-month loan deal from German side Hamburg, whilst central defenders Will Aimson and George Johnston, central midfielder Josh Sheehan, goalkeeper Joel Dixon and attacker Amadou Bakayoko have all put pen to paper on permanent deals at the club.

Amaechi came through the youth team ranks at Arsenal and Evatt used the 20-year-old as an example of the standard of player that will be able to play to the level required this season in League One.

And Evatt is looking forward to getting the players' fitness levels up to speed with the first match of a busy pre-season schedule this weekend against Longridge.

He said: “I think they already are doing to be honest. I think that we’ve seen that in training. Obviously the higher division we’re in and the better the quality of player we’ve recruited, they pick things up quicker and more naturally.

"I think, for instance, Xav gets the movement of that wide forward that we require. He’s had an excellent education. He was at Arsenal and has played in all the England age groups so he understands it pretty quickly.

"It’s great that we’ve got him for the start of pre-season to fit in everything else.

“Obviously for now it’s a fitness exercise. It’s about getting minutes into the legs.

"I think we want to see some of the things we’ve worked on in training, but first and foremost, it’s about keeping everyone in one piece and getting them to the fitness levels required to start the season. As you know I want to win every game we play so I expect us to win.”
