Nottingham Forest continue to be linked with a move for Newcastle United forward Dwight Gayle.
It has been reported that the Magpies striker is a target for Forest as well as their fellow Championship promotion chasers West Bromwich Albion.
Gayle, it is said, would prefer a permanent transfer away from St James' Park instead of another loan move away.
He spent last season at The Hawthorns and is keen to avoid another temporary departure from the Magpies.
Gayle has started just one game for Newcastle this season, the 4-1 defeat to Manchester United on Boxing Day.
He is a prolific Championship frontman and has become a yearly target for clubs hoping to seal promotion from the second tier.
Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has gone on record to state his desire to keep hold of the former Crystal Palace man, but now The Athletic say that could all change if they sign a replacement.
Brighton and Hove Albion's Glenn Murray is reportedly a target for Newcastle and they could let Gayle leave should they land the veteran.
Aston Villa are also said to be interested in the former AFC Bournemouth man
