How Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi almost joined Crystal Palace

Alex Iwobi has revealed he almost joined Crystal Palace as a teenager.

The Arsenal midfielder was unsure whether he would be retained by the Gunners as a 16-year-old and had meetings with several clubs, including Palace, Celtic and Southampton.

“I felt that maybe I wasn’t rated at Arsenal but I always felt at home here, so I signed the scholarship forms,” he said. “Then it was all about proving people wrong.”

Iwobi has started 13 games in all competitions under new head coach Unai Emery this season.
