How Arsenal could ruin PSG’s £202m Kylian Mbappe transfer plan amid Real Madrid switch rumours

Arsenal reportedly face considerable competition from around Europe as they attempt to seal the services of RB Leipzig sensation Christopher Nkunku. The Frenchman has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium on a number of occasions in the past, whilst Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Barcelona are also thought to be admirers.

However, the competition for Nkunku ’s services appears to have gotten even more severe over recent days, with Paris Saint-Germain now in the running for his services. According to Foot Mercato, the French giants are already in discussions with the forward’s entourage over a potential switch to the Parc des Princes.

Nkunku has already represented PSG in the past having passed through the club’s academy. The now 24-year-old went on to make 78 appearances for the club, winning Ligue 1 on three occasions.

He was eventually sold to RB Leipzig in the summer of 2019 for a modest fee and despite an inconsistent start to life in Germany, the Frenchman has gone on to reach his potential this season having scored 27 goals and notched 17 assists in all competitions.

It is no surprise then to see his former club potentially consider a return considering that form. Any move is not expected to be cheap, with Leipzig hoping to tie him down to a new deal, whilst a price tag of €70m (£58.4m) has been mooted.

There is apparently added motivation for PSG to secure the return of Nkunku though - away from his goalscoring. He is reported to be great friends with World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe, who himself could likely be on the way out of the Parc des Princes.

The forward is out of contract at the end of the season, with it being suggested that Real Madrid could be his destination. Valued at £144m by transfermarkt, the former Monaco man would be one of the most lucrative free agents in football history.

It is suggested that the arrival of Nkunku at the Parc des Princes could potentially tempt Mbappe into penning a new deal with PSG, scuppering any chance of a move away to the Santiago Bernabeu. One problem that the French giants face though is the aforementioned lengthy list of suitors for the Frenchman.

Should Arsenal seal a switch this summer, then that would not only scupper PSG’s hopes of signing Nkunku, but also put a major dent in their plan to convince Mbappe to stay, too.
