How Arsenal could line up next year with Dayot Upamecano, William Saliba and Adrien Rabiot

Mikel Arteta will be hoping to put his stamp on the Arsenal lineup in the coming weeks and months.

The Spaniard took over as the new head coach earlier this month, replacing the sacked Unai Emery to take on his first managerial role.

The January transfer window opens on Wednesday and the Arsenal supporters will be hoping Arteta is given money to spend.

It is not a window in which the Gunners do much business normally, however, and Arteta may have to wait until the summer to really put his imprint on the squad and make the changes he deems necessary.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of players though, with defensive and midfield reinforcements among the main transfer rumours heading into January.

What to expect from Arsenal in the January transfer window

So how could the team look come the start of next season?

Arteta will already have a new player in his ranks, without having to do any work in the transfer window after Arseanl completed the signing of William Saliba from Saint Etienne this summer.

The teenage defender was sent back to the French side for a season-long loan as part of the deal and Gunners supporters can't wait to have him at the club.

But who will his partner be? Shkodran Mustafi's time at the club is coming to an end, while Sokratia Papastathopoulos and David Luiz have hardly covered themselves in glory so far this season.

Young RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano has been consistently linked with a move to the Emirates and with no breakthrough on a new deal with the Bundesliga outfit forthcoming he could be the main to revolutionise the Gunners back line.

Then there's the midfield, where Granit Xhaka looks likely to leave and question marks over Lucas Torreira's future too.

Adrien Rabiot is out of favour at Juventus and could be allowed to leave on loan in January, with a view to a permanent transfer next summer. He could be an option for Arteta and Arsenal.

And what about the front line? Will Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang still be in north London come next season?

Here's how Arsenal could line up with important players staying and new signings coming in for the start of the 2020/21 season.

If Aubameyang were to leave Arsenal would surely have funds to sign a replacement. Although Alexandre Lacazette may be favoured in a central role.

The back-line looks solid with three new players in it - we're counting Tierney as new as his Arsenal career has yet to get off the ground.

Rabiot would slot nicely into a midfield trio and Arteta's Arsenal begins to take shape.
