The two North London clubs - Arsenal and Tottenham - are ninth and third in the Premier League, respectively, after the opening seven games of the season.
For the Gunners, their continued progress under Mikel Arteta has been particularly impressive and with some terrific summer signings in defensive areas, the side are beginning to see the results.
It was a tremendous 1-0 victory for Arteta's team over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, which was Arsenal's first away win over a 'top-six side' in six years.
Gabriel Magalhaes and Thomas Partey were the stars of the show for the visitors in Manchester, in a performance you wouldn't usually associate with the Gunners.
It's clear to see that Arteta is prioritising the defence during the early stages of the 2020/21 season, which may have had a negative impact on the attack somewhat.
The Gunners have conceded just seven goals so far this term, which is four less than at this stage in the last campaign, but have only scored nine, which is three fewer than it was after their seventh game in the 2019-20 season.
Arteta's men have been placed in the 'Formidable' category of Experimental 3-6-1's 'Defensive Effectiveness' graph as a result, which shows how many shots the team faces per goal (conceded) on average, as well as their usual shots faced per match.
Arsenal tend to face around 10.5 shots per 90 minutes, but only concede in every 10.2 shots that they face, which is the second-highest in the league, behind only Newcastle United - who face almost 17 shots per game on average.
As for Spurs, they are just two points off the league-toppers Liverpool after the first seven fixtures of the season, and one behind second-place Leicester City. Tottenham have conceded nine goals so far this term, but their 18 goals scored means they are sitting pretty in third in the top-flight table.
In comparison to this stage last season from a defensive standpoint, it's exactly the same, with Spurs also conceding nine goals after seven matches.
Now, Jose Mourinho's men are a place higher in the league, with one more goal scored this time around in the same period of fixtures.
Spurs, like Arsenal, have been placed in the 'Formidable' category on the detailed graph. Tottenham average less shots faced per game than their North London rivals, with 10.2, but on average, they concede in every eight shots that they face, which is less than the Gunners as well.
This weekend, Spurs travel to West Bromwich Albion on Sunday afternoon, whilst Arsenal welcome Aston Villa to the Emirates Stadium later on in the day.
