All over the world there is a pressure on girls to be thin, but the Japan Society of Eating Disorders has described this trend as having “gone to far” in the country.

It also said that treatment for anorexia and bulimia was inadequate, and that hundreds of thousands were not getting the help they needed. In 2014 only 10,000 people were treated for eating disorders, despite the fact that doctors say the prevalence of the illness in Japan is comparable with that in the UK where 725,000 people were treated in the same period. The Japanese government says is trying to set up more services and has tried to discover the extent of the problem, but what do Japanese people think? What support is there for anorexia and bulimia sufferers in Japan, and is there a stigma attached to eating disorders there? Please share your story in the form below.
