How Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk impacts Tyson Fury future

Anthony Joshua is back in the ring on Saturday night as he puts his four heavyweight belts on the line against Oleksandr Usyk.

The bout takes place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in north London and will be played out in front of 70,000 fans - with Tyson Fury also likely to keep a close eye on proceedings.

Fury was due to go toe-to-toe with Joshua in a unification bout in Saudi Arabia this summer but that bout was cancelled after an American court ruled that Deontay Wilder could have his rematch with the Gypsy King.

That fight will take place in Las Vegas on October 9th in a bout that is widely seen as the final hurdle for Fury before facing off against Joshua.

However, the future of a potential clash between Joshua and Fury is also dependent on the former's result against Usyk on Saturday evening.

Victory for the defending champion would leave the calendar clear for fights to be scheduled with Fury, likely to be in 2022.

However, defeat would open the doors for a rematch with Usyk due to a clause that Joshua has in the fight deal - something that he's likely to activate in the worse-case scenario.

That would mean that Fury would be left waiting even longer before meeting Joshua in the ring, while also being frustrating to supporters.

Of course, Fury also needs to overcome Wilder and Joshua's eyes are cast on a unification bout and he's happy to face-off against whoever holds the accolade.

As such, the Joshua fight is the start of a crucial two-week period that will shape the landscape of boxing's heavyweight division for the next year.
