As we take a step back into reality this week after the festive season, you might be wondering what to do with the Christmas tree that is currently lurking in the corner of your living room right now.
Thankfully in Wales, there are a host of spots where you can actually recycle real Christmas trees. The perks of this are that it not only saves you the hassle of dealing with it yourself, but it also means that the tree can be shredded into chippings which can even be used locally in parks or woodland areas.

Blaenau Gwent
Blaenau Gwent Council’s waste department will be providing a service to collect and recycle real Christmas trees from Tuesday, January 3, 2023. You can contact C2BG on 01495 311556 to register your details or register on the "My Council Services" section on the council’s website at www.blaenau-gwent.gov.uk to confirm a collection day for your tree.
Bridgend
According to Bridgend County Borough Council, real Christmas trees can be taken to your local recycling centre or Waterton Depot for recycling from Tuesday, January 3, 2023. The council is asking for people to remove all lights and decorations from trees before recycling. Waterton Depot will be open Monday to Friday, 7:30am - 3:30pm. If visiting the depot on the weekend, you should place the trees on the grass verge between the two gate entrances.
Cardiff
Cardiff Council will be running a Christmas tree drop-off at Heath Park Car Park, King George V Drive, CF14 4AW on Saturday, January 7 and Sunday, January 8, from 10am to 4pm. Trees will need to be loosed, and the council will be unable to accept any netting, sacks, or bags.
You can also book an appointment at the recycling centre to take your tree there, or use the Cardiff Gov App. The council will be collecting Christmas trees in January. You can find out which dates these will be on by checking its website.
Carmarthenshire
Updates will be provided on where else you can recycle your Christmas tree in Carmarthenshire as new details are released.
Caerphilly
According to Caerphilly County Borough Council, people can bring their Christmas trees to their local household waste recycling centres.
Ceredigon
The advice from CeredigIon County Council is to recycle your real Christmas tree at a Household Waste Site or you can compost it at home.
Conwy
If you have a garden waste collection subscription with Bryson Recycling, they will collect your real tree with either of your collections in January. You can check when your collection date is by looking on the Conwy County Borough Council's website. And if you don’t have a subscription, you can take your tree to one of the authority's household recycling centres. You can also shred and compost your tree at home.
Denbighshire
According to Denbighshire Council, people can recycle their real Christmas trees in their green wheelie bin or green sacks, and should cut it up before putting it out for collection. Real trees can also be taken to your local Recycling and Waste Park.
Flintshire
In Flintshire, an adult's hospice, Nightingale House, is holding a Christmas Tree Collection to recycle people's real trees in January, 2023. There is no minimum or maximum amount you can give, however, the average donation is £10. Every penny raised will go towards patient care at the hospice. Only real trees and those which have been booked in advance will be collected. No additional trees can be collected on the day.

Gwynedd
For people who would like a kerbside collection of their Christmas tree in Gwynedd, if you are signed up for the garden waste service, you can put Christmas trees out next to your brown bin on garden waste collection day and they will be collected on the first collection in the new year. If you wish to drop your tree off, you can bring them to Gwynedd recycling centre, and in Bangor, the recycling centre at Llandygai Industrial Estate, LL57 4YH.
Isle of Anglesey
Updates will be provided on where you can recycle your Christmas tree in Anglesey as new details are released.
Merthyr Tydfil
In Merthyr, you can register to have your tree collected by Merthyr Tydfil Council. To do this, you can follow a step-by-step form which asks for your name, email address, contact number, address, how many real Christmas trees will need collecting, and whether it will be placed on the kerbside front of the property or on the rear lane.

Monmouthshire
According to Monmouthsire Council, real Christmas trees can be taken to your nearest household waste recycling centre to be recycled. Opening times for the household recycling centres over Christmas and New Year can be found here.
Neath Port Talbot
Neath Port Talbot Council has informed people that it is acceptable for Christmas trees to be collected as part of garden waste which is presented over the winter months. A spokesperson for the council said on its website: "You can take garden waste, including your real Christmas tree, to one of our Household Waste and Recycling Centres for composting or break up the tree and put in your garden waste bag."
Newport
Newport Council has also advised that real Christmas trees can be recycled at the Household Waste and Recycling Centres. You can book a slot here. Alternatively, you can cut your tree up and store in your garden waste bin until collections resume in the spring.
Pembrokeshire
Pembrokeshire Council has once again teamed up with local charity FRAME to provide a free kerbside collection of real Christmas trees. The collection service will commence from January, Wednesday 4, 2023 and householders wishing to have a collection can arrange one through the My Account section of Pembrokeshire Council's website or by calling their contact centre on 01437 764551.
Requests for collections have been open from Wednesday, December 14, and will close on Friday, January 6, 2023.
Powys
According to Powys Council, people in this area can take their Christmas trees to their nearest household waste recycling centre, and are being asked by the council to remove any decorations including tinsel and baubles. Rhondda Cynon Taff
People in Rhondda have been able to book their real Christmas tree in for kerbside collection by the council from Monday, December 5, with collections running from Monday, January 2, to Monday, January 16, 2022. After this period, trees will be picked up by the normal fortnightly green waste service.
Swansea
According to Swansea Council, real Christmas trees can be chopped up to fit in your garden waste bags as long as they're not too heavy or taken to your local recycling centre to be placed in the garden waste skip.
Torfaen
If you have a real Christmas tree, Torfaen Council says that once it has come to the end of its life it can be taken to the household Waste Recycling Centre to be shredded and used as compost. The HWRC will be open on Friday, December 23 from 10am – 4pm and on Saturday, December 24 from 10am – 4pm.
Wrexham
