• Sam Brenchley nearly died when he was knocked unconscious while surfing at Newquay’s Fistral Beach on March 31. His wetsuit was cut off him during the rescue effort.
• Locals online felt the fundraiser should benefit the air ambulance charity instead. One person, who said they were a part of the rescue effort, wrote that the wetsuit fundraiser was “very disheartening to see”.
• Mr. Brenchley has since redirected the funds to the Cornwall Air Ambulance, a charity-funded organisation.
