How an (allegedly) $8,000 blue couch taken off an NYC street set Twitter ablaze

You’ve probably seen these videos on TikTok: Someone finds an old, beaten-up piece of furniture and cleans it up to make it sparkle, turning trash into treasure.

But one of those videos has gone very viral, for a variety of reasons: User @yafavv.mandaa saw what she said was a $8,000 couch on a New York City street. She called her dad to pick it up, which he did, and then they got to cleaning.

Pause here for a second: I, as a native and current New York resident, would NEVER pick up a couch off the street. I know people who do, but the fear of bed bugs or God knows what has me nervous.

OK, back to the video: It’s now in this woman’s apartment, but it’s sparked debate and lots of memes. Let’s dive in to both:
