How amazing staff at a Pizza Express restaurant in Edinburgh saved a young school-age couple's day

Amazing staff at a Pizza Express restaurant in Edinburgh saved the day when a young school-age couple arrived for a special dinner date.

Zoe Hayes took to social media to highlight a heart-warming act of generosity shown by those at the North Bridge chain at the weekend.

She explained that her 12-year-old son and his girlfriend arrived at the restaurant after a fun-filled day out in town only to realise that they'd lost much of the cash set aside for the meal.

In a panic, the youngster got in touch with his mum, who had booked the restaurant for them, and she was put through to the manager at the chain.

And what those at the restaurant did next resulted in Zoe posting a heart-warming Facebook post which has been shared more than 3000 times across social media.

Zoe wrote: "My son text me worrying and asking what they should do. I rang him and asked to speak to the waiter/waitress to check if I would be able to pay over the phone with my card. It was passed to the manager who said we'll see what it comes to, and if it's not much over how much they have, then we can waive the extra.

"I thought that was very kind, but was anticipating a call later on to pay the difference. The manager then called back a few minutes later to say not to worry, they would cover it, so I figured he'd seen what they'd already ordered and decided it wouldn't be too much.

"He then told them to order what they wanted and they'd deal with the bill at the end. No longer worrying, they enjoyed a great meal."

She added: "So I was surprised when my son arrived home to find that the manager had waived the whole bill and told him to put away the money they did have. The bill was around £35.

"Such a kind gesture that made the difference between the day going wrong and them having a great experience. I'd like to say a big thank you to the staff and manager at Pizza Express, North Bridge, Edinburgh, for looking after them so well."

After the post was shared on social media on Sunday scores of people were keen to praise the actions of staff at the restaurant.

Holly Marsh posted: "Oh my god that's so lovely."

And Finn P Goddard added: "Thank you for sharing such a beautiful story. Generosity and kindness is a gorgeous gift and one which your lovely son and girlfriend will remember always."
