How Alisson can make history as Liverpool goalkeeper continues recovery from injury

Liverpool star Alisson could make history at the Ballon d'Or awards show later this year by being crowned the world's best goalkeeper.

In a press conference which took place on Thursday, France Football announced a new award is set to be given to the goalkeeper of the season.

The Yachine Trophy - which will make its debut at the 64th annual ceremony - is named after Russian icon Lev Yashin, who is largely regarded as the best 'keeper of all time.

After being crowned UEFA Men's Goalkeeper of the Year last month, Alisson will likely be one of the favourites to scoop the inaugural award.

A shortlist of 10 shot-stoppers will be released on October 21, with a jury made up of 180 journalists then set to individually vote for their winner.

The ceremony is set to take place on Monday, 2 December at the stunning Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.

The Copa America winner is currently recovering from a muscle injury he sustained in Liverpool's Premier League opener against Norwich.

Jurgen Klopp provided an update on Alisson's progress last week, the German coach explained the No.1 could return to action following the October international break.
