How Ajax squad reacted to Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United demand

Erik ten Hag has praised his Ajax players for the way in which they have reacted to his appointment as the next manager of Manchester United.

Last month, United officially confirmed that the 52-year-old would takeover at Old Trafford this summer following the conclusion of the domestic season.

United waited until after the Dutch cup final before they officially announced Ten Hag as their new manager to avoid any unnecessary distractions, though they still lost to PSV Eindhoven as they went in search of a historic double.

Ajax are still in pole position to win the Eredivisie title, though, and they defeated PEC Zwolle 3-0 at the weekend to extend their lead at the top of the table to four points with four matches remaining.

It was another thoroughly professional performance from Ten Hag's side, and after the match, he praised his side for remaining focused on the task at hand.

"My players are always focused and that is what we demand," said Ten Hag at his post-match press conference.

"That is in our process. What you see, it’s always spirit in this team, the fighting spirit.

"We need that attitude to win games and, finally, win championships. That we will do, but we have to live from game to game, we will do that."
