How Abby Dahlkemper impressed Man City Women boss on her debut

Manchester City Women head coach Gareth Taylor believes US star Abby Dahlkemper has already settled in despite barely training with her new side.

City found their shooting boots once again as they recorded a 4-0 win over West Ham United in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

The match marked the first involvement of World Cup winner Dahlkemper, who made her debut start for the club, and Taylor has been impressed with his new signing.

“I was always planning on introducing Abby at some point today,” Taylor said. “I wanted to give her at least some time, and to be honest I thought she looked the part.

“She’s settled in nicely so far, and looking at her performance today, I think it was really positive.

“She’s only had three or four sessions with us, and she’s impressed everyone so far.”

Caroline Weir, Georgia Stanway, Ellen White and Rose Lavelle were all on the scoresheet for City today as they clinched their fifth successive league win.

Taylor’s side sit third in the table, five points behind leaders Chelsea and the City boss is happy with how his squad have coped recently.

He added: "We played some really good stuff today, and I have to give credit to the girls for that.

“I’ve been sounding a bit like a broken record of late, but we have suffered from a lack of personnel this year so far.

“We’ve been on the edge a bit, but again I have to give everyone who played today huge credit. Overall, I think the players have coped really well with the situation.

“It’s been a good four-nil victory for us today, and a clean sheet, so I’ve no complaints.

“We’ve been scoring freely since the turn of the year and so I have to be happy with what is still a very important three points.”
