How a text message helped Nottingham Forest defender seal City Ground loan move

Defender Jayden Richardson has revealed how his season-long loan move to Exeter City came to pass.

The Nottingham Forest youngster had played in Tuesday’s thumping 3-1 win at Bristol City Under-23s, before getting a text from his agent the following day informing him about the possible move to Devon.

Richardson had played 90 minutes at Ashton Gate, then headed back to Nottingham to take part in a recovery day on Wednesday, when a message about his switch arrived out of the blue.

“It was just a normal day at Nottingham Forest,” said the 18-year-old in his first club interview.

“I was just doing recovery because I had a game the day before and I got a text from my agent to say that I am coming down Exeter.

“It was good nerves and I was excited to come down and see what it was about.

“The welcome was good. I have met everyone. All the new lads were welcoming and it is just good to get out there and start work."

The League Two Grecians have a good reputation when it comes to unearthing talent and giving them a chance, something which appealed to Richardson, who could make his debut against Swindon at St James Park on Saturday.

“It was a good factor in making me want to join," he said.

“I have seen the history of young players coming through here, and coming here on loan, and getting experience and then going back and becoming better players.

“So I had that in my mind that this loan move is hopefully going to improve me in that way as well.”

Richardson was a regular for the Under-23s last season and has been part of Sabri Lamouchi’s senior squad this summer, but following the arrival of Carl Jenkinson, the youngster has been allowed to leave and gain some experience of lower league football for an opportunity he’s relishing.

“I think the loan move was a good idea because it is League Two football and that is a good level for me and it will be good just to get experience under my belt,” he said.

“I am just here to show everyone what I can do.”
