How a family of ducks held up traffic on the M1 between junctions 25 and 26

A mother duck and her ducklings briefly held up traffic on the M1 as they waddled on to the carriageway.

Highways England Tweeted an image of them and said northbound traffic had to be held between junction 25 (Nottingham/Derby) and junction 26 (Nottingham / Eastwood).

Highways officers swiftly dealt with the incident and traffic was released.

In a subsequent tweet three minutes later, at 1.10pm, Highways England Tweeted: "The ducks have been saved and traffic has been released.

"Thank you for your patience."

The incident prompted a number of replies from members of the public.

One person wrote: "This is quackers…"

Another added: "They've got no high-vis on, crazy ducks."
