How a dad lost 8 stone and became a bodybuilder

A dad-of-two has transformed his body after losing eight stone and becoming a bodybuilder

Olly Hewitt, from Barwell in Leicestershire, says he is "incredibly proud" after shedding 50kg.

He has spent the past five years on a devoted routine of daily gym workouts and a high protein diet.

He was 136kg at his heaviest but now weighs just 86kg, with a lean 5.4 per cent body fat, down from over 50 per cent, Leicestershire Live report.

He said: “I started my weight loss journey because I never liked my photo being taken in public.

“My wife said that you can’t moan about being fat, either accept it or try to lose weight.

“I wanted to go swimming with the kids. I wouldn’t go out, on holidays I wouldn’t take my top off.

“I thought it was no good.”

Olly works as a photographer and has two children, Emily, 9, and Leo, 7, and he has been with his wife Michelle for 20 years.

The couple met as teenagers on a bus in Leicester, with Olly offering her a chicken and mushroom pasty - which is now strictly off the menu for him under his new regime.

The 36-year-old trains six days a week at the Iron Generation gym, near where he lives, and eats several small meals throughout the day to keep his metabolism going.

Olly will be baring his muscles in two weeks at De Montfort Hall in Leicester next week, as he takes part in the Classic Physique category at a UK Bodybuilding Fitness Federation contest.

Before that, he will be taking part in the Pure Elite Federation’s World Championships on November 9, in Margate’s Winter Gardens.

He hopes his story can inspire others who want to lose weight and get fit.

He said: “It’s never too late. I just want people to share the story and to encourage people and motivate them.

“I help people at the Iron Generation gym all the time.”
