How a case of mistaken identity while eating garlic prawns in Benidorm changed this man's life

A Liverpool man's life was changed forever after a case of mistaken identity while he was eating tapas in Benidorm.

Liam Halewood claims that his world was turned upside down after a family sat nearby while he was eating dinner thought he was someone else.

The 32-year-old told the ECHO that he had travelled to Benidorm with friends around six years ago and was eating garlic prawns when a child began to jump up and down behind him.

He said: "Little did I know, that was the start of it all.

"The kid was getting dead excited and next thing, his parents were taking pictures of me from the next table.

"I asked them was everything ok and they apologised and said 'we just wanted a quick picture of you Alan'.

"I couldn't believe it, they thought I was Alan Carr."

After the mix up Liam, a singer and performer, began to think about how he could use his uncanny looks to emulate the talk show host.

He said: "I was performing at loads of venues anyway so I began doing a look-a-like bit and would pose for pictures with people as Alan Carr.

"Little does he know, he has made me thousands of pounds over the years and that family changed my life."

Liam, who is from Allerton but now lives in Blackpool, still travels to Benidorm around three times a year to perform in a number of different bars and clubs around the resort.

He said: "Benidorm holds a very close place in my heart now after that event.

"It helped launch my career and I couldn't be more grateful for the opportunities I have been given out there.

"I have a great relationship with Benidorm and try to get out there as much as I can to perform and see the friends that I've made."

Liam has now stepped away from his Alan Carr impressions and is now focusing on his Boy George impression.

The singer said: "I will be back out in Benidorm in November to perform as Boy George at Bird Cage and I honestly can't wait.

"It is such a special place and it means a lot to so many people."
