The Iran-backed Houthi militias in Sanaa have been cracking down on the operations of local and international humanitarian organizations in Yemen.
The Houthis have been providing these organizations with their own reports and statistics in order to mislead the public over the situation in Yemen.
The Yemeni center for humanitarian studies and media condemned some United Nations agencies for being biased, failing to verify facts in their operations and relying on Houthi-provided figures.
Director of the center Mohammed al-Maqrami told Asharq Al-Awsat that UN agencies are part of the reason for the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the country.
He explained that they had receive more than $2 billion since the beginning of 2018, with the majority of these funds coming from the Saudi-led Arab coalition.
He urged the organizations to review their policies in order to properly assess the situation in Yemen.
The pledges of Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock do not exempt the agencies from being held accountable for the misleading reports they have released over the years, remarked Maqrami.
He stated that the necessary conditions must be ensured for the agencies to carry out their operations according to International Humanitarian Law to guarantee that their aid is delivered to those in need.
