The media office of Yemen’s pro-government Giants Brigades revealed that Houthis have detained around 80 civilians, including elderly, in Ad Durayhimi district, south of the coastal Hodeidah governorate.
According to the Giants Brigades, the Iran-backed militias intend on using the prisoners as human shields in their homes which the Houthis have transformed into military outposts and dug up trenches around them.
In a statement, the Brigades also reported on refugees from Ad Durayhimi complaining that the militias are detaining their elderly inside their houses and barring them from fleeing to a safer area.
More so, the statement reported the death of a Yemeni father and his two children, aged 10 and 12, from a landmine planted by the Houthis in Ad Durayhimi.
Refugees fleeing Ad Durayhimi demanded that human rights organizations and the United Nations intervene to force the militias to release the detainees and allow the elderly to escape danger zones.
The Houthis had during last week’s the Eid Al-Adha holiday targeted the houses and farms of citizens with various medium to heavy artillery. The attacks were mostly focused on the southern districts of the Hodeidah. Despite the attacks, no civilian casualties were recorded.
