Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces intercepted on Sunday a rocket fired by Houthis towards Saudi Arabia’s southwestern city of Najran. Authorities confirmed that forces successfully destroyed one missile while another landed in a barren desert area without causing any damage.
“The Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces on Sunday intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis from Saadah in north Yemen in the direction of civilian populated areas in the Saudi city of Najran,” said Saudi-led Arab Coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Maliki.
He added that the missile was launched deliberately to target densely populated civilian areas. The scattering of missile ricochets on residential neighborhoods sparked a fire at a farm owned by a citizen without resulting in any injuries.
The Saudi-led Arab Coalition has been supporting Yemen’s internationally-recognized government gain background against an Iran-backed insurgency.
Col. Maliki said that the hostile action proves the continued involvement of the Iranian regime in supporting armed capabilities of Houthi militias.
He added that Iran's arming of the Houthi coupists is a clear defiance of UN Resolution no. 2216 and Resolution no. 2231 and a violation of the International Humanitarian Law.
