What’s Going To Happen
And now it’s back to the Clayton Tune era.
He stepped in last season when D’Eriq King got banged up and threw for close to 800 yards and eight scores with two picks. Now it’s his job to try to salvage a season deemed too lost for King and second-leading receiver Keith Corbin to play through.
The Cougars lost Oklahoma and Washington State – no shame there – and suffered a brutal defeat in the final moments to Tulane. But now it all needs to turn around fast with Cincinnati, SMU, UCF and Memphis coming up.
North Texas hasn’t been able to crank up its offense on a consistent basis, but Mason Fine and the passing game should have a shot to go off for the second straight week. The Mean Green didn’t blow up UTSA last week, but Fine was ultra-effective.
Just how much will the departures hurt Houston? They won’t help, and the secondary that’s giving up over 300 yards per game will get hit hard by Fine, too.
At home, the Mean Green defense will come up with a decent day, the offense will start to click a little better, and Houston’s problems catching a break this season will keep on rolling.
