Houston Texans Pick Special 2023 Game to Honor J.J. Watt

Newly retired defensive end J.J. Watt will be inducted into the Texans’ ring of honor this fall.

The ceremony will take place on Oct. 1 when the Texans host the Steelers and brother T.J. Watt.

J.J. Watt, a three-time Defensive Player of the Year, will be just the third person to be inducted into the ring of honor at NRG Stadium, following the team’s late owner, Robert C. McNair, and former wide receiver Andre Johnson.

Watt played 10 seasons for the Texans, earning first-team All-Pro honors five times, before concluding his playing career with the Cardinals. He was the NFL’s sack leader twice (2012, ’15), and he finished his tenure in Houston with a franchise record of 101 sacks.

“Damn, am I proud to be a Texan,” Watt said in a video released by the Texans. “I’m thankful, I’m grateful. ... I’m unbelievably excited to be coming home. We got a whole lot of new memories to make, if you’ll have me as part of your family again moving forward. Let’s get back together, H-Town. I love ya.”

The Texans announced the induction with a highlight video narrated by CBS’s Jim Nantz.
