A recently fired employee opened fire inside his former workplace on Wednesday, killing one person and injuring two others, before turning the gun and taking his own life.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said that two people died, and one of the two persons injured was a police officer, who suffered an injury to his knee.
At 8:43am local time, deputies responded to reports of an active shooter at Knight Transportation in Katy, a suburb 20 miles west of Houston.
The recently terminated employee returned to the scene with a shotgun and handgun and opened fire on multiple employees.
Franz Elementary and Morton Ranch High School, both located across the street from the business, went on a precautionary lockdown after the gunman was reported.
Republican Congressman Michael McCaul offered his condolences on Twitter.
“Praying for Katy right now. Thanks to the [Harris County Sheriff's Office] for the quick actions and response to the shooting.”
