Houston CB Isaiah Johnson would make a nice draft fit for the Browns

The Cleveland Browns had a representative in attendance in Houston for the Cougars pro day. While that event was dominated by top-10 overall defensive tackle Ed Oliver, the Browns got to witness another talent who could fit the team’s need at cornerback in the third or fourth round.

Cornerback Isaiah Johnson fits the Browns desires as a physical outside cornerback with size, something he’s got plenty of at 6-2 and 208 pounds. He ran a 4.40 in the 40-yard dash and posted a 36.5-inch vertical jump at the scouting combine. During the pro day, the Browns scout on hand saw him look fluid in positional deals.

What makes that more impressive is that Johnson appeared to injure himself doing the bench press drill at the pro day. Yet he still competed and completed the workout despite not being at 100 percent.

Johnson is generally projected as a third or fourth-round pick, though some projections have him up in the second round. The converted wide receiver has quite a bit of upside in his big frame.

Could he join, or even replace, fellow Cougar alum Howard Wilson on the Browns depth chart? We’ll find out in a month.
