The suspect in a Texas car chase has been arrested after more than an hour of pursuit.
The chase, which started out at high speeds, ended in Houston just before 9.30am after the driver repeatedly stopped in rush hour traffic, and then ultimately slowed down.
Police say that the driver is a suspect in a domestic disturbance case that was reported early Thursday morning, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Lt Steve Dorris of the Baytown Police Department told that newspaper that they had received a 911 call in the morning from someone who claimed a husband was assaulting his wife.
The chase then began after police arrived at the scene to discover that the suspect had fled in his vehicle.
After identifying the vehicle, police pursued the suspect as he made several U-turns to avoid capture. After entering the rush hour traffic after 8 am, the suspect avoided other vehicles by swerving in and out of traffic, passing other vehicles on the shoulder of the road, and even driving through sidewalks and grassy areas.
Police at one point rammed the car, and the suspect ultimately pulled off of the interstate before being boxed in by police.
At one point, as many as 10 police cars were reportedly flanking the vehicle as it made its attempted getaway Thursday.
