Houssem Aouar reportedly still wants to play in the Premier League despite a potential summer transfer to Arsenal falling through.
It's safe to say that the Gunners' summer transfer window was largely dominated by two midfield targets in Thomas Partey and Lyon's exciting playmaker.
In the end, the former was the one that Arsenal managed to seal a deal for after triggering his £45m release clause at Atletico Madrid on deadline day, while Aouar remained in France.
In the last weekend of September, the 22-year-old was the subject of a bid from the Gunners which was rejected, but talks had been ongoing between the two clubs.
There was an expectation that Arsenal would return with an improved offer to get a deal over the line, but that never materialised.
However, in a potential boost for the Gunners, the reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed Aouar's dream is to play in the top flight of English football.
Although, the north London appear to have an alternative to the Frenchman.
"He's in love with the Premier League, so let’s see what Arsenal will decide," Romana revealed on his 'Here We Go' podcast." What I’m told is that Arsenal are looking to sign this kind of player.
"They were looking [at] Aouar, they are now considering the situation of Szoboszlai.
"The situation is that Arsenal [have been] following Szoboszlai [for] years.
"So, let’s see what will happen next summer or January, but Arsenal are following the player."
Whilst Arsenal have continued to monitor Dominik Szoboszlai, it is understood that no concrete approach was made in the summer window, with other clubs also interested.
But it seems a decision will be made between him and Aouar to bolster Mikel Arteta's midfield options at some point in 2021.
According to transfermarkt, Aouar's value is £45m, while Szoboszlai would be the cheaper alternative at £22.5m.
