Housing estate's epic Christmas light show that has visitors queuing up

Visitors are queuing down the street to catch a glimpse of a Rochdale housing estate's epic Christmas light show.

Every year dozens of homeowners on the Wrenbury Drive estate in Burnedge pull out all the stops to create an amazing display.

And in the process they've raised thousands of pounds for the nearby Springhill Hospice.

The tradition started out with just a handful of residents when the estate was built about 20 years ago.

Since then it's snowballed into an incredible effort that sees visitors come from miles around.

Last year donations saw more than £1,500 raised for the hospice and this year the amount has already topped £1,700.

Peter Marr, one of the first homeowners on the estate, said: "We started this 20 years ago when the estate was first built and there were about six houses doing it and it's just snowballed from there.

"Since then it's gone further and further down the drive and now there are at least 40 houses lit up.

"It's just got bigger and bigger every year.

"The amount of work and effort that everybody puts in is just fabulous.

"People come from miles around to see it now.

"At night you can see the cars queuing up at the bottom of the drive.

"And it's all for a wonderful cause."

Donations can be made at JustGiving or by scanning a QR code on a poster at Wrenbury Drive.
