Housing developer agrees to clean up abandoned site in West Lothian

A housing developer has agreed to repair an abandoned site in West Lothian.

The Courier reported recently on locals who started a petition demanding that developers McCarthy and Stone clean up the gap-site at Linlithgow High street.

The developers completed work at nearby Templars Court in August 2015 and were due to continue works in the area.

However, they decided it was not commercially viable to develop the area as planned due to unsuitable ground conditions.

The area has since been abandoned and locals complained the temporary hoarding were unsightly.

Now McCarthy and Stone say they will start work on the clean up operation after pressure from the community.

A spokesperson said: “We are sorry that this work has taken much longer than anticipated and understand the frustration it has caused.

“We are working closely with West Lothian Council to restore the site and have secured a permit to begin work on removing the hoardings from the 28th of June 2021.

“The first step will be erecting a temporary fence and implementing a robust traffic management system around the site. We will then start to remove the hoardings and scaffolding safely, so that we can prepare the ground for laying the flagstones.

“We have also managed to source a supplier for the rare Caithness natural stone flagstones, with a delivery time of approximately three weeks. We expect the remedial works, including replacing the paving and railings and tidying up the site, to be completed by, or before, the 19th August 2021.
