Houses set to be built on site of popular social club

Houses are set to be built on the site of a social club after plans entered the next stage of development.

Greenalls Social Club in Eccleston submitted a plan for houses to be built on the land in 2019, but these plans were rejected.

However, revised plans involving the partial demolition the club were granted by St Helens Council in 2020, and further plans were submitted last week relating to further housing developments on the club's site.

The original application outlined the creation of four semi-detached homes, and one detached home.

Alongside the plans for the housing, there were also plans to demolish part of the building and build an extension. 37 new parking spaces were also set to be provided.

Several people objected to the plans, primarily over the loss of the bowling green to accommodate the new homes.

The two newest applications submitted to the council are reserved matters applications, relating to the landscaping, scale, and appearance of the developments.

A determination deadline has been set on the plans for January 28, 2022.

The plans can be viewed here and here.
