Houses evacuated after gas leak as police deal with 'ongoing incident'

Houses have been evacuated in Lancashire after a gas leak.

Lancashire Police said four homes on Pembroke Street, Bacup, had been evacuated as a precaution due to the suspected gas leak.

No injuries have been reported.

A police spokesman confirmed there is an 'ongoing incident' in the town.

He said: "A small number of houses have been evacuated as a precaution.

"There is not thought to be any wider threat."

Police said they will inform residents when they are allowed to return to their homes.

On the Rossendale Police Facebook page, officers said: "Houses have been evacuated from a number of streets in Bacup due to a gas leak.

"When we have more information and know when people can return home we will let you know. Thank you for your cooperation."
