Why will I love it?
If you are after a laid-back plant, look no further than the striking dumb cane (Dieffenbachia). It is cherished for its lush foliage and easygoing nature, and its large, broad leaves are patterned in a wide variety of stunning combinations of green, white and yellow.

Light or shade?
While it can tolerate low-light conditions, the dumb cane thrives in indirect, bright light. However it’s essential to avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, which can scorch its leaves.

Where should I put it?
This is a versatile plant and is happy in a range of locations. It will brighten up most living rooms, or can be placed in a corner that receives indirect sunlight.

How do I keep it alive?
Ensure it is planted in well-draining soil, and water it when the top inch dries out. Avoid overwatering. Regularly wiping the leaves with a damp cloth will prevent dust buildup.

Did you know
The Dieffenbachia earned its rather insulting common name, “dumb cane”, from the toxic sap in its stems and leaves: if ingested, this sap can cause temporary loss of speech, hence the name. So place the plant out of reach of children and pets.
