The 34-year-old housemate of missing teenager Pheobe Bishop has been released without charge after being questioned by police.

James Wood was taken into custody by Queensland Police on Wednesday in relation to the disappearance of the 17-year-old. According to 9News, Wood was “assisting police with enquiries” in their investigation into the matter.

He has since been released from custody and no charges have been laid.

“Detectives are continuing to run through several lines of enquiry as investigations continue, and will conduct physical searches when required,” a Queensland Police spokesperson said.

“Police are continuing to appeal for any information about Pheobe’s whereabouts.”

Bundaberg teen Bishop has not been seen or heard from in the last three weeks.

The teenager was last seen near Bundaberg Airport on Thursday, May 15, at approximately 8:30 am. She was due to fly to Western Australia to visit her boyfriend, but according to police, she never checked in for her flight or entered the terminal.

Police issued a missing person’s report a day later, on Friday, May 16.

Since her “suspicious” disappearance, the teen has not contacted friends or family, and her bank account has remained untouched.

Crime scenes have been declared at the home where Pheobe was living with Wood and his partner Tanika Bromley in Gin Gin, as well as her housemate’s grey Hyundai ix35 with registration 414EW3.

A search of the car allegedly led to police finding a shortened firearm, ammunition, and two replica handguns. More ammunition was allegedly found at a home in Gin Gin.

Bromley and Wood have since been charged with unrelated weapons offences. They remain before the courts on the weapons charges, per 9News.

Over a week after the teen disappeared, police began searching Good Night Scrub National Park, an hour south-west of Bundaberg. Cadaver dogs, drones and state emergency personnel combed through the area for five days and some items of interest were collected for forensic examination.

On Wednesday, police said they were no longer conducting any “physical searches” for Bishop and would restart “as needed and as information is provided”.

“There are currently no physical searches for Pheobe at this stage, however, physical searches will happen as needed and as information is provided,” a Queensland Police spokesperson said, per 9News.

Bishop’s mother, Kylie Johnson, has been actively posting on social media since the disappearance, urging anyone with information to come forward.

“I don’t know if life will ever be the same again? I don’t know if I will ever look at the world the same way that I did before May 15th,” she wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

“What I do know is that people have information on where you are Phee and we need that reported to police.”
