Households to begin receiving £650 Cost of Living Payment within weeks

Struggling households all across the country will be receiving extra cash from the government within the following weeks to help with the rising cost of living.

Payments will be made in two lump sums to benefit claimants, with the first set of payments to begin in July. Those who qualify for the extra support include people receiving income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support, Pension Credit and Universal Credit, Nottinghamshire Live reports.

A spokesperson for the Government said: "You will get one payment from July 2022 and a second payment in autumn 2022, if you’re entitled. You will need to have been entitled to one of these qualifying benefits on 25 May 2022 to get the first payment.

"We will update this guidance when the government has announced the date on which you need to have been entitled to one of these qualifying benefits to get the second payment.

"If you have a joint claim with a partner, you will get one payment of £650 for both of you, paid in 2 lump sums from July 2022 and in autumn 2022, if eligible. You will not get a payment if you’re eligible for a Cost of Living Payment from HMRC because you’re entitled to tax credits.!

However, not everyone receiving benefits will be entitled to the Cost of Living Payment. Those excluded include recipients of the New Style Employment and Support Allowance as well as the New Style Jobseeker's Allowance.

But, if recipients are also receiving Universal Credit or a disability benefit then they will still be eligible for the payments. In fact, those who receive a disability benefit may also be eligible for additional Disability Cost of Living payments.
