Households could face a £1,000 fine for not answering these questions

All households in the UK could face a £1,000 fine if they fail to complete a survey for the Government.

The survey in question is the latest census which is designed to help the Government, local councils and charities decide how they should plan ahead and fund services around the UK.

The data collected helps plan and improve vital services including cluding transport, education and healthcare, so filling out the census is important for the whole country, according to BirminghamLive.

But there is also another reason to complete the Census 2021 on time.

Households that fail to complete the census could face a £1,000 fine. It is also a criminal offence to supply false information on the questionnaire.

Census Day is Sunday, March 21 and households are asked to fill out the census on that day or within the following two weeks.

In a letter sent to homes around the UK, the Government said: "We need your help with the census, which fathers vital information to help plan services such as transport, education and healthcare.

"All households should complete the census on Sunday March 21 or as soon as possible after."

The survey takes around 10 minutes to complete and contains a number of voluntary questions as well as compulsory ones.

To access the census questions you must first receive your letter and use the code inside to log onto the Census 2021 website where you can complete the survey.

More information can also be found on the government website here.

Professor Sir Ian Diamond, National Statistician, has penned the letter to UK households, with a paper form available if you complete the form at Census.gov.uk.

Alternatively, people are told they can call 0800 141 2021 for help in completing the form.
