Housebuilder unveils £90 million plans for 400 new homes

Cala Group is to create more than 440 jobs as it builds more than 400 homes on three sites in East Dunbartonshire.

The sites in Bishopbriggs, Lenzie and Kirkintilloch will deliver around 444 direct construction jobs, as well as 204 indirect employment opportunities, to the local area.

Housebuilders ask councils to work with them to end property shortage

Cala Homes (West) is investing close to £90 million into the developments of 312 private and 105 affordable homes. Construction has just started at the brownfield site near Jellyhill in Bishopbriggs, whhere Cala is delivering 135 new homes, including 34 affordable, on the 19-acre site.

Work is to begin at Lenzie and Kirkintilloch in the next few months. As demographics continue to shift, Cala is diversifying into smaller houses and developments with an increasing proportion of flats geared towards the young and the downsizer markets.

Jim McIntyre, managing director of Cala Homes (West), said: “Cala is committed to creating desirable places and spaces - and it is crucially important to us that we become part of, and work with, the communities we’re helping to create.

Phase one of £9 million affordable homes scheme completed

“We do much more than bricks and mortar, the creation of nearly 450 direct full-time employment opportunities across the three sites will boost the local economy and the hundreds of new homes will help address the high-levels of demand prevalent in the local area.”

Cala has plans to invest £150 million across eight sites as part of a long-term commitment, accounting for about 23% of housing supply in Milngavie, Bearsden, Bishopbriggs, Lenzie and Kirkintilloch.
