Housebound 93-year-old Irish woman still waiting to get Covid vaccine

A housebound 93-year-old woman is still waiting to receive her first Covid-19 vaccine.

The woman, living in Sligo, has been registered as housebound by her doctor and can’t leave her house to receive the vaccine, leaving her anxious as to when she will finally get her first jab.

A family member told The Irish Mirror: “It is great that elderly people are being prioritised but those who are not in nursing homes are struggling to get the vaccine.

“There are quite a number of people over 90 in our area who are in the same position and it isn’t good enough.

“At this point, we want to advocate for her because she is very anxious about the situation.

“It is also affecting her carers as she has not been vaccinated yet so it can be difficult to go into her.

“If she was to have a fall and have to go to hospital, the levels of Covid-19 in hospitals are still high so that would be a worry.”

An HSE spokeswoman said: “The HSE cannot comment on individual cases. Individuals who have been registered for home vaccination will be contacted by the National Ambulance Service (NAS).”
