House turned upside down as students' fear 'they were watched'

Burglars left a devastating trail of destruction after forcing their way into a students' flat occupied by three women.

The intruders first wrenched the alarm box off the wall to deactivate it, and then proceeded to smash their way into the flat and turn the place upside down.

Pictures posted on social media showed broken glass littering the property in Tabley Road, Wavertree, along with belongings strewn about everywhere, after the burglars struck on the afternoon of Friday, January 7.

They made off with a catalogue of high value goods from the house, while the three 20-year-old women who live there were out.

These included Apple airpods, Apple watches, XBOX, laptops, a blue Nintendo Switch console, various Michael Kors and Pandora jewellery, Valentino shoes, Amazon Alexa, and a Nikon D7500 camera with sigma lens.

A fridge door was also left open, though it is thought this was done more to cause inconvenience by ruining what was inside.

Jodi Cowdall, the sister of one of the victims, posted the pictures on social media and said: "Obviously someone who knows what they're doing and has definitely been watching the girls at the house."

She added: "Two of the girls were out and the third girl left the house at 2.30pm and arrived home around 8pm to find the house broken into, nobody was in when it happened but the seven days prior to the theft one girl was at home as she was Covid positive.

"It happened while she was out so we think it's been targeted that the thieves have noticed her car leave the address."

Jodi said the house was now "covered in black dust" from forensics trying to recover any fingerprints or evidence from anything touched by the thieves.

Police confirmed they received a report of a burglary at an address on Tabley Road, Wavertree, on Friday, January 7.

A spokesperson said: "It was reported that between 2.30pm and 4pm, offenders had forced entry to the address and taken a laptop, jewellery, Xbox and cash."

Forensic, CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out and anyone who witnessed the incident or with any information is asked to contact police @MerPolCC on Twitter or 'Merseyside Police Contact Centre' on Facebook or call 101 with reference 22000016524.
