House prices remain on the rise across West Dunbartonshire

The average house price in West Dunbartonshire has risen by eight percent over the last year, however the area remains one of the cheapest in Scotland for property.

Data published last week by chartered surveyors Walker Fraser Steele shows that the average price of a property in the area increased from £132,561 in August of 2020 to £143,101 in August of this year.

Only Aberdeen City and the Shetland Islands saw prices increase by a smaller margin over the past 12 months, whilst West Dunbartonshire currently sits as the fourth cheapest location in Scotland to purchase property - ahead of East Ayrshire, Inverclyde and the Western Isles.

The local figure was well below the Scottish average house price of £211,029, with neighbouring East Dunbartonshire remaining one of the most expensive places in the country to buy property - with an average price of £271,703.

In Argyll and Bute, which includes Cardross and Helensburgh, meanwhile the average price increased by a whopping 15 percent over the past year to £194,329 - making it the 15th most expensive local authority to buy in.

Alan Penman, business development manager at Walker Fraser Steele, said: “Property at the top-end has performed well throughout 2021 and there is no sign of any imminent let-up.

“We noted last month that the exceptional performance of larger properties was likely to continue and this month we have more evidence to support that view.

“People’s preference for more space and working from home has meant buyers have often sought properties that can accommodate
new lifestyles.”
