House petrol bombed with terrified family inside

A petrol bomb was thrown through a house window while a terrified family was inside.

Today police urged witnesses to make themselves know after the sickening arson attack which they said could have ended in tragedy.

The petrol bomb was thrown at a house in Skelmersdale during the early hours of Saturday, July 10.

Police said they were called around 1am "following reports a petrol bomb had been thrown through the window of an address in Crossfield Road".

Three people were inside but thankfully nobody was injured. The house was left with smoke damage.

Appealing for witnesses and anybody with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward, Lancashire Police said the arson attack could have left people "seriously injured or killed".

No arrests have been made at this stage and police say enquiries are ongoing.

DS Di Higham, of Lancashire Constabulary's West Division, said: “This is an extremely serious incident which could have resulted in people being seriously injured or killed. We are treating this incident as arson and have a team of detectives working to identify those responsible.

“Although we cannot release any suspect descriptions at this time we would ask anybody who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the arson attack to get in touch with police.

"Similarly, we would ask people to check their CCTV and dashcam footage to see if they have captured anything which could assist our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to email 64@lancashire.police.uk or call 101, quoting log 0095 of July 10, 2021.
