House 'perfectly preserved' for 50 years feels like you've stepped back in time

Crossing the threshold of this cottage will feel like stepping into a different era.

When the home was put up for auction a few years ago it looked exactly the same as when it was first bought 50 years ago, featuring floral wallpapers reminiscent of the 1960s and 70s.

Photos show it with original fittings and furniture, including orange patterned sofas, leopard print chairs, and wood-panelled walls in the majority of the rooms in the four-bed property.

The cottage, in Daw Park, Adelaide claimed to offer potential buyers a 'blast from the past'.

It still contains much of the original furniture (realestate.com.au)

“It’s like you’ve gone back in time,” he told Realestate.com.au. "In one room there are three to four different wallpapers, it’s psychedelic.

"The current owner has been there for 50 years and they haven’t touched it since [they bought it].”

Thought to have been built in the 1940s, the stone-fronted cottage contains four bedrooms at the front of the home, with a lounge, open kitchen and dining area at the rear.

Outside there's an entertainment area, shed, swimming pool, and landscaped gardens with fruit trees.

Robbie said the quirky property is already attracting several interested buyers, with some being big fans of its retro interiors.

"Some people absolutely love it, we’ve got a really good response," he added. "Naturally we’ve got a few people who are looking at it for a renovation though."

The description reads: "Inside, first impressions are met with soaring ceilings and a central hallway that offers a direct line of sight to the kitchen and dining area.

"In original condition, you can expect an art decor colour palette of bold colours, deep tones, floral wallpaper and traditional dark wood built-in storage adding character and warmth throughout.

"Perfectly positioned on a generous corner allotment of approximately 811 sqm, this circa 1940 symmetrical cottage presents a fantastic opportunity to renovate or redevelop in a highly desirable location."

The current owners were selling the property to downsize.
