With the House of Representatives election fast approaching, moth orchid producers are busy potting the flowers typically given as gifts to winning candidates. Orders are pouring into Matsuura Orchid in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, but some items are in short supply as it had to cut down production last year because of the pandemic. Shipments have increased by 20%-30% compared to before the pandemic, and most of the orders are being sent out the day before the election on Oct. 30.
