House of Cards season 6 trailer kills off Kevin Spacey character Frank Underwood

Kevin Spacey’s House of Cards character has been killed off, it’s been confirmed.

Netflix has released a brand new trailer for the sixth and final season which shows Robin Wright’s Claire Underwood speaking at the grave of her husband.

“I’ll tell you this though, Francis,” she says, “When they bury me, it won’t be in my backyard. When they pay their respects, they’ll have to wait in line.”

Just how Underwood dies remains to be revealed but the final eight episodes will focus on Wright’s character who succeeded her husband as US president at the end of season five.

Spacey was fired by Netflix following the sexual assault allegations made against him by actor Anthony Rapp and others. Rapp accused Spacey of trying to seduce him when he was just 14. Spacey, claiming to have no memory of such events, denied all allegations of misconduct.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Spacey will avoid prosecution over an allegation of sexual assault that allegedly occurred in1992 as it was outside California’s statute of limitations.

Wright has addressed the allegations facing her former co-star on two separate occasions. The first time, she maintained that her relationship with the disgraced actor was merely “professional” later adding she believes the actor could revive his career if he was willing to “reform.”

“In that sense, second chances, or whatever you are going to call it – absolutely, I believe in that. It’s called growth,” she said.

She went on to tease the final season of House of Cards as “operatic." The series returns to Netflix on 2 November with Wright joined by Michael Kelly, Patricia Clarkson, Jayne Atkinson and new additions Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear.
